Details you don't know about. (Think Money Folks)

So I got paid on the 25th and it's Saturday. So I went out to get a trailer hitch.  Which I consider the first step in making my dream a reality. Can't buy a trailer to haul and convert if you don't have a hitch on the back of your truck.

I went to a well known auto parts store and the very helpful sales being looks at my truck and goes...

Oh...

It seems that my truck is designed to have a spare tire where the hitch is supposed to go. I will have to have a mounting like the one pictured below.
Plus I've very proud of myself for figuring out how to insert pictures, by the way. :)

This type of equipment must be mounted to the under carriage.  Then I have to buy a pin and the ball hitch. Which I can't buy until I know exactly which trailer I'm buying because it may have either a 1 7/8 inch or 2 inch ball. Cost at the Store was 130 for the hitch, which had a list as long as my arm that it could be modified for, plus another  30 dollars for a pin and ball combo; plus a intro to a mechanic that will do the installation for 100 or so bucks. Total maybe around $260.

On the other hand I had a 'key' to win a Ford F 150, so I went over to the ford dealership to check out not winning the F-150  and then walked over to the parts department to find out how much it will cost to have a mounting like the above installed.

Ford has a the equipment designed for my truck at only about 20 bucks more than the discount store price. 150 bucks There are times when you just have to shell out the price for the RIGHT equipment. Plus 70 dollars for the install and again the same amount for a pin and ball 30 buck so about the same price of about 250 buck.

A note about spending.. I am perfectly willing to buy cheap when it is called for, for example the two great windows, but I am not mucking around with the equipment that will connect my truck to my trailer and buying a almost kinda fits piece of equipment that might give out while I'm going down the road

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

So as I have to go to Austin for a one day conference and then drive back, plus pay all my other bills this month, on top of paying for the registration fee for a conference at the end of March, plus doing my taxes this weekend, I told the folks at the Ford Dealership I'd be back after the 15th to order the part and make an appointment to have the trailer hitch installed. (Plus i'll have time to go to the TSC store and pick out a 6x8 trailer and find out what the ball is so I buy the right thing. I May have to dip into my savings to purchase the trailer but I'll let you know more about that when I get that far.)

On a greener note, I stopped by my local farmers market and picked up three rosemary plants and planted them outside my bathroom window. If the landlord doesn't like it tough. I can stand that empty flower bed any more.

Three days to Candlemas, Groundhogs Day, and Imoblic!
